AWE IN AUTUMN: 8 lessons this golden season has taught me.
“You left the beach life to return to chilly Canada?”
Sure did. After three years of living on Miami Beach, it was time to come home. I returned in the fall when the leaves were as bright as my next new adventure. And I was in awe of autumn.
Here are 8 lessons this season has taught me.
1. Grow with the Seasons
As seasons change, so do we. Our relationships or our career choices may change as we grow. That’s OK! It’s healthy and natural as we evolve. Appreciating the leaves changing from shades of bright green to warm golden hues was a reminder of the beauty that comes with each stage of our life. Allowing ourselves to transform will only bring forth new life experiences, a new season for you to be your best self.
2. Embrace Festive Traditions
Just have fun and embrace the seasonal delights! I love to honour seasonal change with traditions such as hanging our autumn wreath or decorating our enchanting tree house with pumpkins and seasonal flowers. Special traditions make our home feel festive, warm and earthy as we align with Mother Nature.
3. Fall in love with the Now
Each season offers us its unique, wondrous beauty if we can just pause and take it in. We experience vibrant colours, the sound of crunchy leaves beneath our feet and gentle cool breezes. Constantly wishing it was warmer or colder rather than being content with what nature has presented us, can lead to dissatisfaction. Appreciating the now, the season at hand, makes me feel grounded and content.
4. See the Gold in You
I can easily spot the brilliant flecks of bright gold that shimmer in the leaves. A reminder that sometimes it’s easier to adore the beauty in others, than see it in ourselves. This autumn, treasure the gold that shines bright from within you. Cherishing your unique gifts that only you, can bring to the world.
5. Bountiful Harvest
It’s time to give thanks for the bountiful harvest that autumn brings! Savouring our garden vegetables or indulging in fresh meat and pumpkin pies from our local shops are moments I cherish. Appreciating the seasonal foods makes me feel gratitude and love for all that I have.
6. Lean into Nesting
The sun begins to set earlier and the trees begin to shed their leaves as the breezy temperatures blow in. Our bodies begin to align with the circadian seasonal rhythms, meaning we may feel the need to rest, nest and hibernate. Take this opportunity to relax by candle light beside a crackling fire or cozy up with warm blankets and listen to what your body needs.
7. Glow From Within
As we begin to spend more time indoors, it’s a good reminder to check in with ourselves too. It’s therapeutic to identify areas within myself that I could upgrade. Paying close attention to my mental health, such as blocks or traumas that I need to release.
Doing our inner work will set a foundation for a healthy relationship with oneself and others. We GLOW when we radiate happiness, love & kindness that starts from within!
8. Do the Ground Work
As temperatures begin to drop, I close up my gardens by protecting the soil with tarps or mulch and by raking leaves off the grass. By protecting my outer world, I prioritize my inner one too. I ensure that I have a healthy, active routine in place before the winter sets in. I keep warm gear ready to go so I can continue to revel in the next coming season.
In closing, every day is a new day to be who you want to be. But there is something magical in the new golden chapter that unfolds as seasons change.
May your autumn be bountiful and awe-inspiring!
